“PAGES” DRAWS NEAR
By mid-September, I’ll be a published author! Here’s press release info:
DRAG QUEEN LINDA SIMPSON PAYS TRIBUTE
TO A CAPTIVATING TRANSGENDER FRIEND
IN HER DEBUT PHOTO BOOK, “PAGES”
Linda Simpson, who began her multifaceted drag-queen career in the late 1980s, presents her debut photo book, PAGES, a heartfelt homage to her captivating transgender friend Page. The book is from Peradam, a Brooklyn publishing group specializing in small-run artist books.
PAGES launches on September 22nd at the annual New York Art Book Fair at PS1. The book sells for $20 and will be available at selected bookstores and at Peradam.info.
PAGES features 25 photos of Page, shot by Linda over the course of their 12-year friendship, beginning in 1990, in bygone gritty New York City. The photos recall her mysterious beauty, outlandish sense of style, and provocative performances that made her a cult figure of the gender-bending nightlife.
PAGES is an offshoot of “The Drag Explosion,” Linda’s archive of her many photos of NYC’s momentous drag scene from the late 1980s to the mid ‘90s. Launched this past summer, the multi-media project includes a website (TheDragExplosion.com), live slideshow presentations, and other book and exhibit formats in progress.
